Learn Attack Patterns
The Bat features distinctive pink wings, purple fur, and piercing white glowing eyes. It has a humanoid silhouette that suggests intelligence beyond typical forest monsters.
Important: The Bat is completely blind but has enhanced hearing!
The Bat resides exclusively in the newly added cave system, accessible from Day 1 of your playthrough. These caves are extremely dark, requiring a flashlight to navigate.
The Bat can be found in the first chamber of the cave and reappears in deeper sections as you progress through the tunnel network.
The Bat demonstrated its power by wounding the Deer in a previous update, establishing itself as the strongest entity in the game.
Crucial: The Bat cannot be killed or defeated - only avoided or temporarily stunned!
The Bat's primary attack is a devastating scream that travels as a red shockwave toward players. This shockwave deals significant damage and causes a blurry, glitch-like visual effect on your screen.
The shockwave can hit multiple players and travels a fair distance through the cave. It weakens with distance but remains dangerous throughout the Bat's chamber.
Before screaming, the Bat clearly telegraphs its attack with specific animations:
This tell gives players approximately 1-2 seconds to react and find cover.
In addition to its scream attack, the Bat can summon stronger variants of Cultists to hunt players down.
These Cultists are more powerful and devoted than their surface counterparts, hitting harder and displaying more aggressive behavior patterns.
Note: These Cultist variants respawn after some time at specific locations in the caves!
Visual representation of the Bat's shockwave attack pattern
When you see the Bat preparing to scream, immediately take cover behind solid objects:
The shockwave cannot penetrate solid objects, making cover your primary defense.
Your flashlight is essential for both navigation and defense:
Stunning the Bat cancels its attack and creates an escape window.
Before entering the caves, ensure you have:
| Defense Method | Effectiveness | Risk Level | Recommended Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taking Cover Behind Walls | High - Completely blocks shockwave | Low | Primary defense strategy |
| Flashlight Stun | Medium - Temporarily cancels attack | Medium (requires timing) | When cover is unavailable |
| Creating Distance | Low - Shockwave weakens but doesn't disappear | High | Last resort only |
| Attempting to Fight | None - Bat is invincible | Extreme | Not recommended |
The Bat's cave is marked on your map after depositing three Logs in the scrapper and upgrading your Campfire. The entrance appears as a cave icon with a yellow exclamation point.
Secondary entrances may require upgraded campfire and TNT to access.
The caves are extremely dark, requiring a flashlight for navigation. Players can shine their flashlight on crystals to make them glow permanently, illuminating areas.
The cave system features a network of underground tunnels with hieroglyphs that tell the story of the Ram, Deer, and Bat, sometimes revealing weaknesses.
Throughout the caves, you'll find shrine-like structures with green buttons that activate blessings:
These blessings provide permanent survival advantages.
