Essential Survival Strategies
Food & Hunger Management
- Hunt rabbits immediately after spawning to get a rabbit foot for trading with the Pelt Trader on Day 2
- Build two Farming Plots near your camp for a steady supply of carrots
- Upgrade your crafting bench to build a Crock Pot - place it between your Farming Plots to create an endless supply of Stew
- Avoid eating uncooked food as it will damage your health
- Running out of food gradually drains health - always keep emergency food supplies
Base Building & Resource Management
- Plant tree saplings close to your camp to create a mini-forest for easy wood access
- Choose base locations with flat ground, nearby resources, and good sightlines for defense
- Create tree walls by planting saplings in concentric circles around your base
- Build a Biofuel Processor to convert logs into efficient fire fuel
- Use Wood Rain Storage to keep logs dry during rainy periods
Defense & Combat Tactics
- Set up Bear Traps around your base perimeter - they can be reused after being triggered
- Create multiple kill zones with layered defenses: spiked traps, barbed wire, and explosive barrels
- Watch for Alpha enemies (like red-eyed wolves) that deal more damage than regular enemies
- Use the flashlight to temporarily stun the Deer when being chased at night
- Health regenerates faster near your campfire - retreat to heal during combat
Exploration & Progression
- Build the Map board early to explore more efficiently
- Look for landmarks like cabins or towers which often contain valuable loot and tools
- Uncover dirt piles to reveal arrows pointing toward hidden chests
- Collect flowers as currency to trade with the Fairy (who has a fixed location each run)
- Rescue missing children to make multiple days pass at once

Key Mechanics & Systems
Campfire Management
Upgrade your campfire through 5 levels using wood, biofuel, and oil. Higher-level fires expand your safe area, improve health regeneration, and provide better protection against threats. Keep your fire fueled especially during rainy nights when enemies are more active. Remember that wet logs can't be used as fuel until they dry - use Wood Rain Storage to keep your fuel supply dry.
Crafting & Upgrades
Upgrade your Crafting Bench to level 4 to unlock essential equipment and structures. Prioritize unlocking the Crock Pot for efficient cooking and the Biofuel Processor for better fire management. Scavenge for scrap metal away from your camp to gather materials for upgrades. Remember that you can shred items like chairs for wood instead of using them as fuel.
Nighttime Survival
While exploring at night is possible, it's significantly more dangerous. Listen carefully for the Deer's footsteps and wolf spawn sounds. If you must explore at night, use your flashlight strategically to stun the Deer temporarily. Clear fog on your map during daytime to make night navigation safer. Always plan your return to camp before darkness falls.
Alien Invasion Strategy
The Alien Invasion update introduces powerful technology that can significantly aid your survival:
Mothership Raiding
- After the Day 3 alert, check your map for UFO crash sites marked by saucer icons
- Find the operational UFO (marked by a glowing yellow icon) and defeat the alien guards
- Locate the teleporter inside to beam up to the Alien Mothership
- Stock up on healing items and acquire a Raygun before attempting the raid
Alien Loot & Technology
- Raygun: Fast-firing laser weapon with unlimited ammo - essential for mothership combat
- Laser Sword: Powerful melee weapon superior to early-game options
- Laser Fence Blueprint: Build futuristic defensive fences for your base
Pro Tip: Advanced Tree Farming
Plant tree saplings very close together (about two squares apart) to maximize efficiency. When grown, you can hit multiple trees with a single axe swing, dramatically increasing your wood gathering speed. Create two concentric rings around your camp for a sustainable wood source that will fuel your fire and crafting needs throughout your entire playthrough.
